How the 90/180 Rule Works

The Rolling Window

For any given day, look back exactly 180 days. Count how many of those days you spent inside the Schengen Area. This window slides forward every day.

90-Day Maximum

You may spend a maximum of 90 days within that 180-day window. Entry and exit days both count. Multiple short trips accumulate.

Area-Wide Rule

The rule applies to the entire Schengen Area collectively — 27 countries. Moving from France to Germany does not reset your count.
